Villa Cuba is a Cuban restaurant and cocktail bar at Zindelstraße 2, in the heart of Göttingen city center. I recently dined there and loved the ambience, food and service. In this blog post I would like to tell you about my experiences with Villa Cuba and give you an insight into Cuban cuisine.

Villa Cuba is a real eye-catcher. Even from the outside you can see the bright colors, the palm trees and the Cuban flags. When you enter the restaurant you feel like you are in another world. The walls are decorated with pictures of Havana, Che Guevara and Fidel Castro. The tables are set with white tablecloths and candles. The music is happy and rhythmic. And best of all: it smells delicious of spices, meat and fruits.

I was eating there with a friend and we had a table at the back of the restaurant, where it was a little quieter. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who gave us the menu. The menu was written in German and English and contained a variety of dishes from Cuban and Creole cuisine. We were spoiled for choice because everything sounded delicious.

We chose an appetizer to share: fried chicken skewers with peanut sauce and salad. The skewers were tender and juicy and the peanut sauce was creamy and flavorful. The salad was fresh and crunchy. The portion was large; enough for two people and we were very satisfied.

For the main course I chose the specialty plate a la Cuba for two people. It was a large plate with various Cuban delicacies: chicken skewers in peanut sauce, prawns, meatballs in tomato sauce, goat cheese in poppy seeds, feta with homemade mint dressing, olives, salad and baguette. That was a real culinary delight! The prawns were big; and juicy, the meatballs were spicy and the cheeses were mild and aromatic. The mint sauce was refreshing and went well with the feta. The olives were crunchy and salty. The salad was colorful and delicious. And the baguette was crispy and warm. I tried everything and was thrilled.

My girlfriend ordered the fried prawns with sweet potatoes and tomatoes. This was a slightly lighter dish, but no less delicious. The prawns were also large; and juicy, the sweet potatoes were soft and sweet. and the tomatoes were fruity and sour. The whole thing was rounded off with a spicy sauce that gave the dish a special touch.

Of course we also drank cocktails with our meal. Villa Cuba has a wide selection of classic and exotic cocktails such as Mojito, Caipirinha, Piña Colada, Daiquiri or Mai Tai. I chose a mojito, which consisted of rum, lime juice, mint, sugar and soda. It was ice cold, tangy and refreshing. My friend chose a caipirinha, which consisted of cachaça, lime juice and sugar. It was sweet and sour, strong and delicious.

We were both very full and satisfied after our main course, but we couldn't resist ordering dessert. We shared a banana split which consisted of a halved banana, three scoops of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and chopped nuts. He was simply heavenly! The ice cream was creamy, the banana was ripe, the cream was fluffy, the chocolate was melting and the nuts were crunchy. A perfect ending to a perfect meal.

We paid our bill which was very fair for the quality and quantity of the food. We thanked the waitress who served us very attentively throughout the evening. We left the restaurant with a smile on our faces and a good feeling in our stomachs.

Villa Cuba is a great restaurant for anyone who loves Cuban flair and food. The restaurant is cozy, authentic and lively. It offers a break from everyday life and a culinary tour of discovery. I can only recommend it!
