A classic chili con carne is one of those dishes that always works – whether as a casual lunch, for guests, or on a party buffet. This recipe is simple, filling, and wonderfully flavorful. The spiciness can be adjusted to your taste.
Ingredients for 4 servings
-
2 onions
-
3 garlic cloves
-
1 red bell pepper
Advertising -
2 cans of kidney beans (250g drained weight)
-
1 can of corn (280g drained weight)
-
1 tbsp rapeseed oil
-
800g ground beef
-
2 tbsp Tomato paste
-
500ml beef broth
-
800g chopped tomatoes (from a can)
-
1 tsp cumin
-
2 tbsp paprika powder
-
1 tsp chili powder (more or less to taste)
-
1 tsp cinnamon
-
Salt and freshly ground pepper
Preparation
1. Preparation
Finely chop the onions and garlic, deseed and dice the bell peppers. Place the kidney beans and corn in a sieve, rinse, and drain well.
2. Fry the meat
Heat the oil in a large pot or deep pan. Brown the minced meat over high heat until crumbly and brown.
3. Add the onions and spices
Add the onions and garlic to the pot and fry for a few minutes. Then stir in the tomato paste and fry briefly—this adds depth to the flavor.
4. Cook the chili
Deglaze with beef broth, add chopped tomatoes, bell peppers, beans, and corn. Add the spices (cumin, paprika, chili, cinnamon) and mix well.
5. Simmer
Let the chili simmer uncovered over medium heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper.
Serving Tips
Chili con Carne tastes best with:
-
a dollop of sour cream or crème fraîche
-
fresh coriander
-
rice, tortilla chips, or simply with a piece of baguette
For a special touch, you can stir in a small piece of dark chocolate at the end. This makes the sauce round and a little darker.

Tip:
You can also prepare the chili ahead of time – it tastes almost better reheated. Ideal for freezing!
